  • Chickpeas – 150 g (Overnight soaked)
  • Mustard oil – 4 tablespoons
  • Clove – 4-5 (whole)
  • Black pepper – 7-8 (whole)
  • Bay leaf –  2-3
  • Cumin – ½ Tablespoon
  • Garlic – 4-5 cloves (Chopped)  
  • Onion – 1 Medium Size (Chopped)
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1 Tablespoon
  • Tomato – 2 (Chopped)
  • Red chilli powder – ½ Tablespoon
  • Coriander powder – 1 Tablespoon
  • Cumin powder – 1 Tablespoon
  • Garlic powder – 1 Tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder – 1 Tablespoon
  • Salt – As per the taste
  • Coriander leaves – 2 stands (Chopped)
  • Ginger – a few slices

Punjabi chana masala recipe is a complex recipe to get a restaurant-style taste, you need to pay attention to every step of this dish However, we think it’s not as complex as sit seems, all you do the next time you make this recipe is follow our instructions below and will make restaurant- style Punjabi chana masala recipe without making any extra effort.

  • Take chickpeas in a bowl and wash them thoroughly, and soak it for 6-8 hours
  • After the chickpeas are soaked, boil them till they become soft and keep them aside
  • Now, heat a frying pan, add mustard oil to it and let it heat for a minute
  • To the pan add bay leaf, cumin, and black pepper, and wait for 30 seconds
  • Then add chopped ginger and wait for a few seconds and add chopped onions to it
  • After the onion turns shallow pink add ginger and garlic paste to it and fry it for about a couple of minutes
  • Add chopped tomatoes to the pan, and cook it till the tomatoes are nicely mixed with other ingredients and are reduced to half
  • Now, add red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garlic powder, and turmeric powder and mix it for a minute till the mix leaves a fresh aroma of the fried masala
  • Add the chickpea’s leftover boiled water to form a curry
  • After stirring it for a minute, add boiled chickpeas and salt to it and cook for 7-8 minutes 
  • Serve it hot by garnishing the Punjabi chole masala with coriander leaves and chopped slicked ginger sticks.
